A New Year’s Resolution – again!
A year ago I thought, all these thoughts, why not put some of them to print? I did very briefly and then life took over! Now another New Year and another try.
Why read this? Well, if you love music, love collecting records, may have worked in the music industry at some time and, best of all, were a pop child at the dawn of rock’n’roll, these musings may from time to time strike a chord.
What’s going to prompt me to go into print? Usually events, or memories that just pop into the mind and will hopefully be written down before they pop out again. If anyone reads me who know me, they may be asking…..what about that book you were writing? Why are you wasting time on this when you should be finishing what you started over 12 years ago? I should, and I will, but what started life as a project to fill all those anticipated empty hours created by “retirement” (the inverted commas are important) has effectively ground to a temporary halt as more interesting day-filling events come along.
However “The Book of Record” is not forgotten – over 80,000 words have already been written and all the 80+ interviews remain.
Meanwhile, what has prompted memories this week? Two deaths, as it happens.
Firstly Gerry Rafferty, a man who never seemed to be able to cope with success, particularly the phenomenon that was ‘Baker Street’. I never met Gerry, but I did meet Raf Ravenscroft
